Competition reveals low confidence in Flames

If results of short message service (SMS) competition which Blantyre’s Active Promotions Incorporated Limited ran last week are anything to go by, then fans have lost confidence in the Flames.

This picture emerged on Friday when first five football fans who predicted through SMS the Flames 3-1 loss to South Africa during an international friendly match received their prizes at Steers Debonairs in Blantyre.

Wyson Makolokozo, the only Blantyre resident among winners, was the first to receive a TNM mobile phone G1101 handset from Active’s directors Kadoda Pickford Ngwira, Gift Nyirenda and Elias Chijota.

“The response was encouraging considering the short notice. Roughly, there were 800 responses. Most predicted a draw while a good number gave the game to Bafana Bafana. The competition helped fans to follow their team’s performance so that they can make informed opinion,” said Nyirenda, a former FAM general secretary.

Makolokozo, a Bangwe Township resident, said it was obvious from recent Flames’ struggles that they could not beat Bafana Bafana.

“Based on current performance, all was clear from the outset that the Flames cannot beat Bafana Bafana. Even the rankings show that South Africa is performing better,” said Makolokozo, a Mighty Wanderers follower.

The other winners were one from Nkhata Bay, two from Lilongwe and one from Zomba.

To win, one was required from the Friday of the match to the following Saturday 1pm to text fw, d or bw for Flames’ win, draw and bafana win.
