Complex Madrid FC beat Mpunga United 3-1 on post-match penalties at Zomba Community Centre ground on Monday, to reach finals of the Zomba District Presidential Cup.

Watched by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) technical director Jack Chamangwana, among other notable faces, the game lived to its billing as both sides gave each other space to dominate.

Played on a soggy pitch due to a heavy downpour an hour before, the two teams settled for a goalless draw in regulation time.

Madrid goalkeeper Emmanuel Kamowa saved Pilirani Issa’s penalty whereas Wisdom Chikafumbwa and Yusuf Chidule blasted theirs over the bar.

Madrid scored through Sunganani Samu, Ozwel Mtetemele and Chimwemwe Chidati whereas Clement Chikwili missed his.

Their coach Foster Mahamba had this to say after the game: “The game was tense considering that the players live in close locations and this sparked rivalry. I will work out on a few weakness noted in the game as we prepare for the final.”

Madrid will meet the winners of the encounter between Chinamwali Stars and Changalume Youth later this week.
