Construction of Chingazi priest’s house begins

Construction of the priest’s house at Chingadzi Parish in Thyolo has started, albeit with measly resources.

The parish has been mobilising resources from well-wishers to build the house after the initial structure was gutted down by fire in November 2012.

Parish priest Father Frank Mwinganyama confirmed that the contractor was on the ground.

But Mwinganyama said the project has begun amid meagre resources.

“We are embarking on this project purely on trust that well-wishers will avail themselves later. The parish didn’t raise enough resources in its fundraising activities,” he said.

The priest, currently operating from Nguludi Parish—20 kilometres away from what used to be his base—said the door is still open for the public to give their assistance.

Chairperson of the fundraising committee Felix Chome said following the incident, Christians have held a series of fundraising activities such as Paper Sundays and mock weddings.

Chome said the budget for the project is K15 million (US$35 971).

“Those interested in contributing to this project can simply deposit their assistance in the parish account number 0121265810500, Standard Bank, Luchenza Branch,” he said.

Mwinganyama expressed hope that the new house would reduce the costs he incurs every Sunday to conduct mass at Chingadzi Parish.
