Local Development Fund (LDF) earlier this year approved the council’s application for K165.8 million funding for the bus station.

The council was requested to contribute about K2.5 million as per LDF urban window guidelines which demand that the beneficiary council contributes 1.5 percent of the project cost.

Mazizi said it was worrisome that the contribution is yet to be made, saying they agreed during an extraordinary council meeting in June 2015 that part of business licencing fees collected this financial year would be channelled towards the contribution.

“As a last resort, I am ready to use either personal resources or constituency development fund [CDF] because I do not want the district to lose this project,” he said.

The DC said the council is not financially sound and the elected leaders were aware of this. He disclosed that the council secretariat has since resorted to borrowing the required amount.

Meanwhile, LDF has written the council warning that failure to contribute the required amount will result in cancellation of the project as that will indicate lack of commitment to the proposed project.
