A global consulting firm, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), on Wednesday conducted a day-long workshop in Malawi’s commercial city Blantyre for selected principal secretaries (PSs) and Cabinet ministers.
The workshop, held at Sanjika Palace, discussed good practices for sustainable economic development assessment and best practices in making improvements in different sectors such as health, education, information and mining, among other topics.
President Joyce Banda hosted the workshop and was in attendance. Journalists were only allowed to cover the opening ceremony.
BCG partner and managing director Douglas Alan Beal said in an interview at lunch break that his group works with corporations and governments, imparting knowledge on issues such as how to assess the gross domestic progress and how to manage public wealth.
Beal described as bad the situation where the wealthy in a country gets wealthier and the poor get poorer, adding there is always a need to strike a balance and portion the wealth appropriately.
Ministers present at the workshop included Eunice Kazembe (Education, Science and Technology) and Catherine Gotani Hara (Health).
Ministries that had their PSs in attendance included mining, education, labour, transport and public infrastructure and information and civic education.
