The stage is set for the Copa Coca-Cola Schools Tournament today, which will see winners in each of the six groups take home an K80 000 (US$197) prize.

Carlsberg Malawi Limited has said fans should expect to see top class action at all the venues of the tournament.

“With games taking place in all the regions, we want Copa Coca-Cola to create a football frenzy with communities and teams coming together so that the word in every district this weekend is Copa, so that everyone is cheering their young and talented football stars. Our young players should show up, have fun and embrace the spirit of Copa Coca-Cola,” said Carlsberg senior brands manager (non-alcoholic) Titha Mbilizi.

The tournament, which started with 1 085 schools in contention, has now 22 teams vying for the regional honours.

“What has been exciting this year is that the number of teams tripled from 315 to 1085. We have been doing it for 46 years; yet the excitement and the buzz is still the same. This is because the dream of young people remains the same. Every year, young hopefuls register for Copa Coca-Cola, in pursuit of their dream of one day making it big,” said Mbilizi.
