Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) has hinted at forging a concrete partnership with the Flames and Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

The company’s sponsorship coordinator Violet Kapolo said this on Tuesday when the Kukoma Cooking Oil manufacturer  honoured its K5 million pledge to the Flames for qualifying for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

She said: “We are delighted that the [Malawi] national football team delivered according to the nation’s expectations and it gives us so much pleasure to honour our pledge which we made on March 26 ahead of the decisive match against Uganda.

Kapolo (L) makes a symbolic cheque presentation to Nyamilandu (R) and Flames defender Stanley Sanudi

“Going forward, we would like to partner the Flames and FAM in a big way ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

“As Cori, we are determined to do that in a big way. However, we can do that only if our sales pick up.”

Cori also handed out K500 000 to the lone goal scorer  Richard Mbulu.

On his part, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu commended Cori for stepping forward before the team qualified.

“What Cori has done by fulfilling  their pledge of the K5 million is a highly commendable gesture.

“This will go a long way in motivating the players. It will also encourage us that we have partners.”
