Corporate citizenship, catalyst for development—AICC

Listen to this article

African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC), which touts itself as a local catalyst and facilitator of change, has called on people to act responsibly by sharing roles with government to ensure the country registers remarkable socio-economic development.

AICC chief executive officer Felix Lombe said this at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi on Tuesdaywhere the organisation had an interface with the media.

He said Malawi and the world at large have been talking of a number of commitments as well as aspirations and these can be achieved if stakeholders work together and take responsibility for the outcome of their actions.

He said: “Going through our aspirations, it is observed that there is an increasing mention of the need to build partnerships because there is a realisation that poverty as well as development cannot be fostered in the absence of other players besides government.”

Lombe said government is just a small player in the whole development trajectory, adding that since the aspect of partnership is well expounded in corporate citizenship, there is need for the country to embrace principles of corporate citizenship.

AICC technical adviser responsible for cotton health Tobias Hoffarth said corporate citizenship as a normative behaviour of business entities deal with business’ sustainability and should be understood and applied appropriately.

He said the being aware of the principles of corporate citizenship would help to promote businesses which in the end will develop the country.

The workshop attracted 30 journalists.
