Cosafa lines up workshops ahead of U-17 tourney

Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) has lined up four training workshops for various stakeholders during the 2019 Under-17 Youth Championship which Malawi will host from October 11 to 20.

Cosafa will kick off the series of trainings with a referees course from October 6-10 to be facilitated by Fifa instructor Felix Tangawarima.

Twelve Fifa referees and 13 local up-and-coming young referees are expected to attend.

There will also be a D-Licence coaching course to be facilitated by Zunaid, targeting 30 local youth coaches from October 6-10 as well.

Cosafa also plans to hold an administration course to be facilitated by Ashford Mamelodi from October 14 to 18 and will be attended by 30 local administrators.

The media will also benefit from the Cosafa Under-17 Youth Championship hosting as there will be a workshop to be facilitated by Mark Gleeson, Nick Said and Lynda Greef from October 19.

Cosafa deputy chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said the regional governing body would like to build the capacity of the stakeholders as part of hosting the tournament.

“We would like to leave a lasting legacy after the 2019 Under-17 Youth Championship,” he said.

Football Journalists Association (FJA) general secretary Mabvuto Kambuwe hailed Cosafa for the initiative, saying it will help build the association’s members capacity. “These are some of numerous benefits that come with hosting such events,” he said.
