The Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) on Thursday destroyed in public pirated music and video devices such as DVDs, compact discs and audio tapes confiscated from vendors and duplication agents nationwide.

“Today, we are destroying over 50 000 copies valued at around K24 million. These are just part of what we confiscated and we still have a lot of them at our offices that are yet to be destroyed,” said Cosoma senior licensing officer Rosario Kamanga in Lilongwe.

The destruction was witnessed by officials from the United States (US) Embassy, Malawi Police Service, the Malawi Revenue Authority, Cosoma and various associations representing artists, among others. —SAMUEL CHIBAYA, Staff Reporter
