Super League of Malawi (Sulom) says its annual general meeting (AGM) slated for this weekend at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi will be held under a cost-sharing arrangement with clubs.

Sulom general secretary (GS) Williams Banda yesterday said: “We have failed on the initial sources of funding and now we have opted for alternative sources.

“The AGM will be held under cost-sharing arrangements.”

Banda: We have failed on the initial sources

He also said he did not have  details of the actual cost of the AGM as he needed “to verify following some reviews”.

However, last month Sulom president Tiya Somba-Banda said they would require between K8 million and K11 million.

Sulom also justified the delay to hold the AGM, saying it was because of financial constraints caused by effects of Covid-19.

“At the moment, we are pressed with finances as the little money that is there is being channelled towards match organisation and without gate collections, it is proving to be a challenge,” Banda said.

Each delegate to the Sulom AGM gets K30 000 for accommodation.

The league-runners also pay sitting allowances, lunch and refreshments during the meeting.

Sulom will also provide fuel for one motor vehicle per delegation.

The Sulom GS added that the AGM has been shifted from Saturday to Sunday because the venue is booked for another function.

The AGM will elect a new vice-general secretary to replace Zachariah Nyirenda, who was expelled on disciplinary grounds.

Other agenda items include presentation of activity report for 2020, matters arising and financial report.
