Cotton global demand, prices on the rise

Local netball powerhouse Kukoma Diamonds have set out on a drive to beef up its squad as they look forward to repeat last season’s impressive showing.

This follows the team’s sponsor Capital Oil Refining Industries’ (Cori) approval to invade the transfer market.

As a first step, the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) champions have bought blossoming goal shooter Eddah Muyombe from Karonga Sisters at K200 000.

The player was unveiled at Blantyre Youth Centre last weekend.

Diamonds treasurer Bertha Mazeze said their sponsor has promised them to pay for any player the team wants to sign.

“Our target is to repeat last season’s clean sweep, but we expect the season to be tougher this time; hence, the move to strengthen our squad.

“Eddah has lots of potential and when the technical committee made the request, we did not have to think twice and we are thankful to our sponsor,” she said.

On her part, Muyombe said she was delighted to join Diamonds.

“I have been following this side for some time and it is a dream come true. Now I want to work hard to break into the side which I know will not be easy,” she said.

Karonga team manager Ruth Mwafulirwa said they are optimistic of finding a suitable replacement for Muyombe.
