Council accuses leaders of derailing development

Lilongwe City Council has blamed block leaders of derailing development within the city.

The comments were made during a Multiparty Liaison Committee (MPLC) meeting held at Lilongwe City Council by council director of administration who is also the committee’s chairperson, Dyton Milanzi.

Milanzi said block leaders behave as if they are chiefs and take advantage of people’s ignorance on their role.

He said the council is in the process of developing systems which will allow members of Parliament (MPs), councillors and block leaders to work together to ensure that development takes place.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lilongwe District urban chairperson Alfred Leston Matchumbuza concurred with Milazi, saying time had come for sanity to prevail. n
