The Sports Council has disclosed that they are finalising selection of the Malawi Paralympics Committee (MPC) interim committee.

Sports Council executive secretary George Jana said this in reaction to The Nation’s interest to know when the committee would be back in operation to prepare athletes for the forthcoming Presidential Paralympics Championships.

The disability sport’s athletes have been inactive since council disbanded the Juma Mkandawire-led executive committee last year due to alleged failure to comply with arrangements pertaining to the remittance of the K2.3 million (about $5 750) grant obtained from the International Paralympics Committee (IPC) for local athletes’ aborted trip to the 2012 London Games.

“Currently, the process of setting up the interim committee is at its conclusive end. However, it is too early to mention the names that are being considered for the duties and exactly when we will announce the new committee. But everything will be in order before the Presidential events,” said Jana.

However, Mkandawire said the dismissed committee is following the events with keen interest and will soon make their stand clear.
