Zomba City Council (ZCC) has been urged to make information available to residents of the city on the progress or delays in development projects for the people to have confidence in the council.

ZCC Likangala Ward resident Moses Kalima made the call on Wednesday at the Zomba Community Centre Hall during an impromptu meeting the city’s Bwalo Initiative Organisation held for the secretariat, councillors, community leaders and residents to scrutinise developments taking place in the city.

Jangiya: We will source money

“It is a long time since the council pledged that these developments would commence but to no avail,” he said.

ZCC chief executive officer Dyson Jangiya acknowledged failure by the secretariat to feed the residents with information on time.

He said the construction of the stadium might start soon as the project was already funded in the 2016/17 National Budget.

“The [proposed bridge] was not funded in the previous budget, but efforts are being made to source money for the [project],” he said.

Bwalo Initiative programmes officer Harry Phiri described the meeting as fruitful as it has enabled the residents to present their grievances to the council. n
