Mmadu said the golf course is in bad condition, fearing this will negatively impact on sporting activities at the club.

“I wish to take advantage of this event to appeal to the corporate world and all sports lovers to assist us restore beauty to the course. The [golf] course currently is in bad conditions, it needs serious attention,” he said.

Ecobank Malawi managing director, Charles Asiedu, did not immediately respond to the call, but said the bank is committed to promoting golf in the country.

Asiedu said his bank values sporting activities highly as they promote good health among the players, some of whom save their money with the bank.

He further disclosed that his institution was pleased to note that the number of golf players continues to grow each year.

“This year, we registered 96 players although 75 participated. And this is not a mean participation. This gives us impetus to continue sponsoring these tournaments; and, I wish to assure you that we’ll return next year,” said the bank’s boss.

The men’s category saw Medson Kalambule being crowned the championing after outclassing 65 other players while Margaret Mkwanda scooped position one in the women’s section after scoring 43 points.

Kalambule thanked management of the bank for organising the tourney. n
