Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) select side on Sunday emerged winners of the All Stars National tournament at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) court.

The host side accumulated nine points after beating Northern Region Select and Southern Region Select with 2-1 margins and Veterans Side 2-0.

The champions Blue Eagles Ladies taking on Katoto Queens at BNS.

The two-day tourney marked the launch of three courts which were constructed by CRVL in conjunction with well-wishers.

CR Select coach Paul Malange said the tournament was competitive.

“The tournament was very good. It was one way of developing a strong national team. Our victory came because of dedication and hard work,” he said.

In men’s B category, Blue Eagles Youth won after beating Mchinji 3-2 in the finals while Blue Eagles Ladies made it in ladies category with a 3-1 win against Katoto Queens from the North.

BNS Sports development officer Macmillan Mwale, who was the guest of honour, said management is grateful to accommodate different sporting disciplines.

“According to structural design, the facility was supposed to be hosting only football and athletics and the erection of volleyball courts is a welcome development.

“We will utilise all the available space in order to accommodate more sports codes as this will also help the community to own the facility and end hooliganism,” he said.

Organising and publicity secretary Peter Pemba described the launch as success.

As champions, CR Select received a trophy and K100 000,  Blue Eagles Ladies also  received a trophy and K300 000 while in Men’s B category, Blue Eagles Youth received a trophy and K100 000.
