Creccom drills people to cook nutritious food

Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (Creccom) has drilled community members from Traditional Authority Ngowe in Chikwawa on how to prepare nutritious meals.

Speaking on Tuesday during food demonstrations at Khungubwe Village, the organisation’s programme officer Dan Tewesa said they are working with promoters to teach people how to prepare nutritious food using locally available foodstuffs.

“We want to encourage people to eat six food groups and get vaccinated against Covid-19,” he said.

A community member Mary Sikelo said she did not know that she could prepare nutritious food using locally available resources.

“I used to think that nutritious food can only be prepared using expensive food items bought from shops,” she said.

Dolo Extension Planning Area agriculture extension development officer McKnight Sankhulani said the cooking demonstrations came at the right time when many families were failing to provide nutritious food for their families.

With funding from Unicef, Creccom is implementing a Creating Demand for Continuity of  Essential Health Services Project in Chikwawa, Nsanje, Mwanza,  Blantyre, Lilongwe, Karonga, Mzimba, Mzuzu, Zomba and Nkhata Bay districts.
