Creccom identifies girls for bursary education

The Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (Creccom) last week identified 40 girls as beneficiaries of secondary school bursary education in Zomba Rural.

The exercise took place at the Zomba District Council chamber hall and involved officials from the Ministry of Education, the Social Welfare, Creccom and district council officials, among others.

Creccom executive director George Jobe said the girls’ education support initiative (Gesi) is a Swedish Organisation for Individual Relief (Soir) funded project aimed at promoting education for the girl-child through the provision of secondary school education bursaries.

Said Jobe: “We are happy to have completed the selection exercise which was based on a merit list from the Education Division office. This year, we had nine girls selected to secondary schools and there was need to complete the list by identifying the remaining 31 to make the required 40; hence, this exercise.”

He said through Gesi project, his organisation has mobilised communities to support girls’ education in the catchment areas of St Martin and Nsondole zones.

South East Education Division (Seed) manager McGregory Alufandika hailed Creccom for being transparent in the selection process.

“As government, we feel humbled for our girls in the rural areas being beneficiaries of Gesi project. We appreciate the assistance being rendered in the promotion of the girl child thereby increases their chances of attaining secondary school education through the bursaries,” he said.
