Crime reduction excites stakeholders in Blantyre

 

Security stakeholders in Blantyre have applauded the police for their quick response to crime, a development that has resulted in crime rate reduction.

Speaking during a review meeting organised by the station executive committee (SEC) yesterday, Nyambadwe Ward councillor in Blantyre City Central Constituency, Leonard Chibade, said the formation of  community policing forums has helped the situation.

Blantyre Police SEC chairperson Misheck Munthali said they will sustain the working relationship with the police to ensure that residents are safe.

“As we approach the festive season, we have a well detailed roadmap to ensure satisfactory security, peaceful festivities and zero tolerance on crime,” he said.

Blantyre Police Station officer-in-charge Ellobium Banda said achievements in crime reduction were made because of the uninterrupted co-existence between the police and communities.

During the third quarter of the year, Blantyre policing area has reduced  criminal cases by 36. 7 percent while road accidents were reduced by 42 percent. n
