Police in Balaka are hunting for unknown criminals who have allegedly tampered with a grave where a person with albinism was buried.

Balaka Police public relations officer Joseph Sauka confirmed the development, saying the incident happened at Mwawa Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Amidu during the night of Thursday and Friday last week.bones

He said the incident was reported to police by Hadija Salimu, the mother to the deceased.

“Salimu said her son, White, died on March 23, 2015 after suffering from skin cancer and was buried 20 metres away from her house for fear that if buried at the village graveyard, which is almost a kilometre away, his body could have been stolen,” he said.

He said after the police, with the help of the villagers, dug the grave to find out if the body was still there. Sauka said they found the body.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to the general public to be alert and report anyone suspected to be involved in albino attacks.
