Dr. Medson Matchaya, Nsanje District Hospital director confirmed the incidents in a telephone interview on Monday.

“So far, 20 people have already reported to the [Nsanje District] hospital after they were attacked by crocodiles,” said Matchaya.

He also indicated that there are likely more deaths that have occurred.

Sekani Tembo, Nsanje Police officer-in-charge also confirmed that the crocodiles have been terrorising most areas in the district due to flooding by Shire River.

“Yes, it is happening and we have received such reports on crocodile attacks, but the problem is that most of the victims do not report to us and they go straight to the hospital. I have also heard of two incidences, indicating that two people have been killed,” she said.
