Central Region Pool League (CRPL) has postponed the start of the K1 million ($4 000) Presidential Ladies Singles due to lack of funds.

CRPL chairperson Robert Gama and treasurer general Kennedy Kalilombe Jnr confirmed the postponement on Wednesday.

Gama said the Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) has not released funding to run the affairs of the league.

“We started the Under-23 with our own finances. Mapa has not yet released our funding and we have decided to put the Ladies Singles on hold, until we get the funding,” said Gama.

The tournament, which has attracted 16 ladies, was scheduled to start on Saturday after failing to start last Saturday at Maimba’s Place at Area 18A.

Kalilombe said the league submitted a budget of K201 000 (about $804) to Mapa.

In his response, Mapa treasurer Yesani Odala said: “We are yet to get our allocation from Sports Council as we have just submitted our budget. We are assured that we will get the funding by end of this week.”
