Lilongwe Cycling Crew’s five cyclists have left Lilongwe for the Northern Region where they are expected to cycle for 391 kms to raise funds for Mother’s Fun Run (MFR), a Nation Publications Limited (NPL) annual corporate social responsibility activity.

The cyclists will cycle from Nkhata Bay to Karonga and Chitipa.

Speaking before departure in Lilongwe, one of the cyclists, Martin Mtawali, said that the group is fit for the challenge because they have been practicing for some time now.

Said Mtawali, “We have covered over 600km each in practices and we are sure that we are going to conquer the stipulated distance.”

Since the challenge is open to the public, the cyclists are expected to be joined by other cyclists from the Northern Region who have expressed interest.

NPL’s business development manager, Chimwemwe Jere said that the proceeds to be realised from the cycling challenge will form part of the donation to be given to Chitipa District Hospital.

Said Jere, “We are hoping to raise at least K20 million out of this challenge which is going to

alleviate challenges at Chitipa District Hospital.”

The MFR initiative for this year is targeting to raise K300 million which will be split between Chitipa and Mulanje District Hospitals.
