Diaribord Malawi (Private) Limited (DML) has increased the sponsorship for the Ching’ombe National Cross-Country Championship to K1.4 million from K1.2 million.

This was announced by Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) president Godfrey Phiri in an interview with The Nation at the weekend.

Phiri said the sponsorship increase followed a meeting which Dairibord managing director Theodora Nyamandi had with the AAM executive committee last week.

Phiri also said that during the meeting, Dairibord pledged to continue bankrolling the national cross-country.

“We are thankful to Dairibord for their continued support towards athletics and we promise to use the sponsorship for the intended purpose,” said Phiri.

He said following the agreement, this year’s championship will be staged at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe on February 9.

Chancy Master emerged the overall champion in the men’s 12-kilometre race while Mirriam Thole won the ladies’ eight-kilometre race last year.
