DAM names Region 5 squad

Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) has named a national team squad for the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Darts Championship which Malawi will host at Police Cottage in Mangochi from August 27.

DAM president Joe Zangazanga said the six-day tournament that has attracted eight countries, will be competed for in five categories namely men and ladies senior teams, junior boys and girls team (19 to 25 years) and veterans (older than 50 years).

“The selection follows a vigorous assessment from all the regions.

“The morale of the selected players is encouraging and Malawians should expect victorious national teams,” said Zangazanga.

One of the senior players, Anthony Maenda, promised success.

“To be in the national team is a great achievement. I am looking forward to being in a good position to help the victory,” he said.

Other countries to participate are Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and South Africa.

Malawi last participated in the competition in 2014, and they finished as joint runners up with Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe.

The full squad is as follows:

Senior team: Thokozani Tembo, Anthony Maenda, Oswin Banda, Harry Msiska, Samsom Million and Kings Karambo.

Senior ladies team: Angela Zimba, Alice Shawa, Sekani Manda, Esnart Chirwa, Rabecca Chingwa and Memory Katema

Junior boys: Rodrick Dzimbiri,Albert Mkandawire and Amon Chathamanga.

Junior girls: Jennifer Phiri, Judith Noah and Mpira Masanza

Veterans team: Austin Chingagwe and James Mbando.
