When life gives you lemons, make lemonade …goes a popular saying. And optimism and a positive can-do attitude in the face of difficulty against his manager Sisqo of Sisqo Productions, this is exactly what Dan Lu has done by releasing a song called Village Champion.
Irritated by Dan Lu’s alleged non-compliance demeanor to Sisqo Productions—a South African music label which he is signed to, Sisqo has spit fire against his signee to the extent of labeling him ‘A village champion and ‘fraudster’.
But Dan Lu has since released a song to respond to his manager. Village Champion officially dropped on Friday in Blantyre and has become an instant hit.
“Basically, Village Champion is a description of who I am as Dan Lu and where I am coming from. But how come Mr. Sisqo signed a village champion for international business?” wondered Dan Lu.
He claimed he is hot Without Sweet Banana.
“My fellow Malawians know where I am coming from and God has been faithful throughout my career,” he said.
The lyrics in Village Champion condemns the local music and entertainment environment which forces many Malawians to search for greener pastures outside the country.
“In Malawi, artists are not valued. There is little that is invested in them and arts industry as a whole. There is also a ‘pull him down syndrome’ which is preventing many artists from potential corporate worlds. As a result, local artists are forced to sign horrible music deals somewhere,” said Dan Lu.
Meanwhile, the art work of the Village Champion, which depicts Dan Lu as a village king, has gone viral on the social media.
