Renowned reggae artist Dan Muyaya has said all is set for the launch of his new album titled Luso Lamuyebona on March 24 at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.

The artist has come back in the limelight after being quiet since dropping a single titled Ndidzayimba in 2015.

Muyaya: I am trying to bring back the lost reggae roots

In an interview, Muyaya said the 11 track-album is one of his best albums and he has decided to come back after noticing that reggae music is losing direction.

“I saw some weaknesses in Malawian reggae music. I can give an example, in early days of late [Evison] Matafale, we had good and meaningful reggae music which was pure as if from Jamaica…but now it seems like people just sing because they can be close to a mic. As such, I am trying to bring back the lost reggae roots,” he said.

Inspired by Jamaican reggae artist Nasio Fontaine, Muyaya released his debut album Luso Langa in 2005.

The album saw him rising to fame and he came again on the music scene with singles such as Reggae Jamming, Reggae Music, Mama and Timba in 2012.

“There has been a change in my music, especially the type of message, so my fans should look forward to witnessing more shows this year as I have been quiet because I was occupied with work and business. Now that I am done with it, I can concentrate on music again,” he said.

Among other things, the launch will be spiced up by Lulu, Skeffa Chimoto, Atoht Manje and Lenzo Mushanga.

The album has been produced and recorded by Happy Thom and Viwe Chibwana at CL Touch Studio in Lilongwe and has songs like Mphatso, Munakumana bwanji, Khwangwala and Chikuchepera.n
