Danish team yet to decide on Russel

Seeking to revive career: Mwafulirwa (L)

Danish third-tier outfit Rishoj Boldklub has not yet decided on former Flames striker Russel Mwafulirwa’s ongoing trials, the test’s facilitator Kim Splidsboel said on Monday.

Mwafulirwa, 31, started the trials at the second-division side last week after the club contacted the ex-Flames Danish coach Splidsboel to help them hunt “for a tall and clever striker”.

“It is up to Russel to impress and the club to decide; otherwise they are happy with his performance. I told him what they expect from him. Here teams usually play with one striker. They expect someone who can hold the ball with his back to the goal and bring others into play,” explained Splidsboel.

The break that the league will have in a few weeks and the speed at which Mwafulirwa can get his international transfer certificate in Sweden where he last played competitively would also determine the prospect of his signing for Rishoj.

Mwafulirwa, who had trials at Silver Strikers recently, last played competitively early 2013 at Swedish second division side IK Sleipner. He then had revived his career which stalled after he shockingly opted against staying at Sweden top club IFK Norrkoping.
