Darts national tourney back in MZ after 3yrs

The Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) will this weekend hold this year’s National Championship finals at Mphatso Motel in Mzuzu.

The finals, which start tomorrow and conclude on Sunday, will be returning to Mzuzu after an absence of three years.

DAM secretary general Chester Kayange said teams from all Leagues will out at the National Championships.

“The tournament will serve to expose the new teams to the rigours of the DAM tournament. We have Chitipa and Karonga and Domasi who are appearing for the first time in this tournament. It’s going to one of those thrilling tournaments as they new comers will want to impress,” said Kayange.

He said the coming of the new teams means the game is growing in the country, especially in the Northern Region where the game has been dormant.

Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL) will be represented by White Eagles, HTD BSC and MPCC.

Zomba and Districts Darts League (ZDDL) will be represented by Domasi and Cobbe Stingers.

Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) have Capital Glass and Kamuzu Barracks Snipers where as hosts Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL) have Mzuzu Select A and B and Chitipa/Karonga select.

Capital Glass captain Joe Zangazanga said after a trophy-less season 2015, this is their year.

“We have been practicing hard because this tournament wills give us an opportunity to salvage something after a disappointing season.  We are going to Mzuzu with intent,” said Zangazanga.

BDDLs HTD Blantyre Sports Club are defending champions.

The Tournament kicks off every year in December or January hosted on rotation basis amongst the four Leagues. Up until two years ago, Carlsberg Malawi Limited was sponsoring the event and it was branded Carlsberg Cup. n
