Malawi darts national team left on Sunday for South Africa to prove its worth at the Zone VI Championship, bouncing back after a two-year absence.

The championship, to pool southern Africa darts cream, will run from tomorrow to Saturday at Orkney Sports & Recreation Club, Orkney, North West Province.

Malawi’s team comprises seniors for women and men, veterans and juniors, said Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) general secretary Joe Zangazanga before departure.

“The teams are a mixture of old and new blood, which is a sign of competition among darts players in the country,” said Zangazanga.

DAM treasurer general Thom Kachali is leading the team accompanied by Chester Kayange, Tingo Ligomeka, Angella Zimba, Brave Chirwa and Palije Nyirenda who are managing the four categories.

The Malawi squad went into camp last Wednesday at the Malawi National Council of Sports hostels.

Malawi’s last Zone VI championship appearance was two years ago in Lesotho, where they bagged bronze in the senior men’s category, gold in senior ladies double event and silver in the senior men’s doubles event. South Africa are the defending champions.
