September 20 will go down in the country’s history as the day a stronger, heavier, faster and more reliable locomotive called the Dash 9 first arrived at Limbe Station in Blantyre.

Nacala Logistics, concessionaire and operator of the Nacala Development Corridor, said in a statement that the launch of the Dash 9 in the country will boost tonnage of imports and exports as well as cut transportation costs by 20 percent.

The new locomotives captured on arrival in Blantyre.

The Dash 9 will also help Nacala Logistics to have the capacity, reliability and efficiency to move cargo faster than ever before.

Nacala Logistics operations director Gustav Stein said tonnage of imports and exports will rise from 60 000 to 80 000 tonnes while transport costs will drop by 20 percent.
