Davido not coming

Listen to this article

Chete chete sautsa nyama, so goes the Chichewa saying. There has been no adverts on TV, radio newspapers or social media, but stories have been speculating on those platforms that Nigerian musician Davido is coming for the launch of the Go Green Campaign in Malawi in Malawi.

The organisers of the event said they have found themself in that position following the tight schedule of the guest of honour which they proposed for the show First lady Gertrude Mutharika who could not make it to the show.

“We wanted to have the first lady Madame Gertrude Mutharika as the guest of honour at the concert. However, the launch has clashed with a state function at Kamuzu Palace on Friday as well, meaning, the first lady cannot be at two events on the same night.  We are therefore, discussing with Davido’s manager to see whether to shift it to Sunday or postpone to a later date,” said ministry of energy, mines and natural resources lead consultant, Stephen Otieno on Tuesday.

But as of today, the organisers were still in deadlock talks with the artist’s manager as they continue pressing for new dates.

“The artist is no longer coming as such we are still in talks with his manager Kamal Ajiboye to have him here later this month. We have nothing concrete yet, so I will be in a position to say much only after we reach a consensus. We are in a fix,” he said.

In an email interview on Wednesday, Davido’s manager Kamal Ajiboye, confirmed that the artist will not perform this weekend in Malawi as they had planned because the organisers needed more planning to do to hold such a concert.

“Due to the magnitude of the event there is need for more time to plan so the event has been moved to a further date which will be released soon,” said Ajiboye.

Davido was billed to perform alongside a couple of Malawian artists including The Black Missionaries and Lucius Banda at Civo Stadium.
