Nguluwe said the nutrition improvement committee had a crucial role to play in ensuring that statistics improved by, among others, employing strategies which address stunting.

“Apart from taking a leading role and coordinating activities in nutrition, you also need to ensure that nutrition status of people improves through support to nutrition improvement component,” he said.

Nguluwe said the support aims at reducing stunting from 48.3 percent to 37 percent and anaemia among under five children and women of child bearing age from 54.8 percent to 32 percent.

Save the Children International nutrition coordinator for Mangochi Martin Jeremiah said the project would introduce community-based nutrition interventions in all 12 traditional authorities. n
