Deceased body parts miss, police claim

Mystery surrounds the alleged missing of some private parts of a 17-year-old girl from Thyolo who died in a road accident in Blantyre last Saturday.

The girl, together with her fiancé, was run over by a vehicle near Mudi River in Sunny Side and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital.

Her fiancé, identified as 30-year-old Ernest Magodi, sustained fractures and spine injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Mlambe Mission Hospital, according to police.

Police said the two were hit by a Toyota Rav4 registration NB 3944 driven by 29 year-old Uchenzi Nyasulu at around 13:50 hours.

The girl, who was living with her parents in Thyolo, was visiting her fiancé in Blantyre as they were preparing to get married.

Her body remained at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital for a while before it was moved to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) at about 17 hours for post-mortem.

However, at QECH, when Dr Vincent Senzani wanted to conduct a post-mortem three hours later, police said he discovered that part of the girl’s private parts (clitoris) was missing.

Blantyre Police Station spokesperson Elizabeth Divala, while not wanting to discuss the matter in detail, confirmed the development and said it was under investigation.

Dr Symon Chiumia of Mwaiwathu Private Hospital, who was doctor on duty in the Accident and Emergency Unit where the girl was treated before she died, said his team did not notice anything strange on the body.

He said four traffic police officers arrived at the hospital 30 minutes after the body was brought there and were part of the people who took it to QECH.

Senzani was not available for comment. QECH chief administrator Themba Mhango said he could not competently comment on the matter.
