Dedza Dynamos have earned promotion to the top-flight TNM Super League after clinching the Central Region Football Association’s Chipiku League.

The team won the championship with a game to spare after coming from behind to force a one-all draw against Extreme Football Club on Friday at Dedza Stadium.

Dedza finished on 20 points from nine games whereas Extreme played 10 games in the final round which had six teams remaining out of 20.

Dynamos coach Christopher Ruba Zinyongo attributed the promotion to teamwork.

He said: “It has all been teamwork from the start. I must commend my players for their hard work and that’s why we have been consistent in getting positive results through all zonal games up to the final round. It’s been incredible.

“The fans too have been wonderful accompanying the team everywhere. It’s been a great season.”

Despite missing out on the ultimate prize, Extreme FC coach Wilson Magombo described the season as a success.

He said: “Of course I am not happy with officiation. There were some questionable decisions that went against us. But I am happy that my players displayed a resilient spirit in spite of all this.

“What you have you know is that this was our first season playing in the Premier Division; hence, finishing on second position is a great achievement to us.”

After a barren first-half Extreme FC brought the deadlock through their top hitman Promise Kamwendo in the 54th minute to silence the stadium which was packed by vocal Dynamos supporters.

But the stadium erupted into loud cheer when Charles Chipala levelled in the 74th minute.

Despite several close attempts from both sides the status quo didn’t change as the two sides shared spoils.

At Silver Stadium, Silver Strikers Reserves beat Airborne Rangers 4-1 to finish third with 16 points while Green Rangers and Wimbe United played to a 2-2 draw.

However, Dedza Dynamos and Wimbe United will face each other in a replay to finish the season.

The game was abandoned at Kasungu Stadium on October 10.

The results of the game will have no impact impact on both sides.

Dedza Dynamos were established in 2017 and they participated in their first competition in 2018 in the Dedza Radio Bembeke League.

They were crowned champions in the same season.

They also won the Presidential Cup at district level in the same year under Baison Chisasulu and Zinyongo, who have guided the team to the TNM Super promotion.

They then played in the Chipiku Premier Division in the 2019/2020 season in which they finished fourth under Robert Mzinza before earning promotion into the TNM Super League this season four years after the team was established.
