Arrows will fly at the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre on Saturday as a two-day Deekay Supplies/Sports Complex Darts Bonanza, whose stakes have been raised from last year’s K250 000 (about $625) to K300 000 (about $750), rolls into action.

Coordinator of the annual contest, Duncan Karim, said on Thursday that the winning team will walk away K60 000 (about $150) richer while runners-up and third-placed outfits will get K40 000 (about $100) and K25 000 (about $62) respectively.

“There will also be individual prizes for those that will score 180s, close on a bull and have the least number of darts. The event will start at 9am. We urge all players to strictly observe the dressing code,” he said.

Karim added that the registration of teams for the contest will close at noon and a draw will be conducted in the evening.

The teams that are targeted to take part in the Blantyre and Districts Dart League (BDDL) event are defending champions Elvis Freight, Blantyre Sports Club, White Eagles, Poly CEC, White Eagles, CoM, Tedzani, Nkula, Kapichira, Newlands, Red Bulls, SDI and Luchenza.

This is the seventh year that the competition is being sponsored by Deekay Suppliers and CoM Sports Complex. Deekay Suppliers provides the finances while CoM Sports Complex offers a free venue.

Deekay Suppliers has been sponsoring darts in the BDDL for 30 years to honour the company’s founder the late Dillip Dassani, who liked playing darts for the Country Club Limbe (CCL) team.
