The Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBC) has warned Wilson Masamba, Alick Mwenda, Mussa Ajibu, who resigned from MPBC and joined Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) risk having their records removed from BoxRec.

BoxeRec is a database of professional boxers including the number of fights they have fought and matchmakers all over the world use the statistics to organise fights.

Masamba: I am staying put with Maba

Speaking in a telephone interview from Mchinji on Tuesday, MPBC President Lonzoe Zimba said boxers affiliated with AIBA, Maba’s motherbody, cease to appear on BoxRec.

“We are just waiting for confirmation letters from either the boxers or their managers so that we should forward the information to World Boxing Council (WBC) to take action,” said Zimba.

Masamba and Ajibu insisted that they will not go back to MPBC.

“We have been assured that we can fight on World Boxing Federation (WBF), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and other reputed boxing agencies. I am staying put with Maba,” he said.

“I was with MPBC for two years, but I never fought a title fight. MPBCB never wanted to give me a shot.  I believe I have better prospects with Maba,” said Ajibu who will be fighting Zimbabwean Tinayi Maridzo on February 5 in Lilongwe in a non-title fight. n
