Defrosting your fridge

Let me start by defining defrosting. Defrosting is the process of removing the ice or frost from the evaporator or freezer, according www.brighthubengineering.com.

Defrosting is important for a number of reasons. The first and personal reason to me is that it helps increase space in the refrigerator because it removes the layer of ice which takes away valuable space.

Defrosting also gives an opportunity to clean the refrigerator. Experts also say defrosting improves the efficiency of the refrigerator.

Most manufacturer’s manuals recommend that defrosting should be done once the layer of ice is above a quarter of an inch deep.

Defrosting is a process that does not require special skills and tools to accomplish. All you need is to plan when to conduct the exercise so that you can be able to store the food in coolers. The best time is when there is very little food in the refrigerator that requires cooling.

The first step is to switch off the refrigerator. Then open the door (s) to ensure that the warmer air outside to help melt the ice. You can accelerate the rate of melting the ice by place a bowl of warm water. Alternatively, you can use a fan that will be circulating the warm air.

According to wikihow.com you can also use a towel dipped in warm water to clean the ice. It will melt so easily.

There are many methods of removing ice during defrosting but these methods should not include removing the ice using sharp objects. I once punctured a gas pipe and I recall with regret the inconvenience that I caused to the whole family. I would not want to see any family undergoing such.

The melting ice will definitely flow out of the refrigerator. Some refrigerators have mechanism that make it easy to collect the water, but others just let the water to flow out. In this case, you are required to lay old newspapers round the refrigerator so that they should absorb the water. Alternatively, you can use old clothes. This reduces the labour of mopping a wider surface after the job is done because of the controlled flow.

When the ice has fully melted, remove the shelves. Do not remove the shelves while there is still ice because the struggle may result in breaking some components of the appliance.

Clean each of the shelves and then clean the main refrigerator.

Before switching on the machine, ensure that the insides are dry and all the shelves have been replaced.

It is my humble wish that you will have a week full of activity. Remember, if you want it perfectly done, do it yourself. n
