Demand development from duty bearers—Yoneco
People in Phalombe have been urged to exercise their fundamental rights in demanding essentials services from their duty-bearers to enhance quality delivery of public services.
Youth Net and Counselling (Yoneco) executive director Mac Bain Mkandawire said this in the district last week during community awareness campaign in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mkhumba aimed at sensitising masses to their right to development through citizen participation.
He said collective involvement of the communities will assist in ensuring that poverty reduction is achieved and that by 2014, rural people in Phalombe and Zomba where the project is being implemented, are enjoying excellence and greater fairness of delivery of public services.
Said Mkandawire: “Our target areas are currently, facing challenges in accessing quality health services. The communities have complained of shortage of health workers in most of the health facilities in the district.”
Yoneco in collaboration with the Development Communication Trust (DCT) and Women’s Legal Resource Centre (Wolrec) under Umunthu partnerships are implementing the project with support from Tilitonse funds.
