Everyone knows the power of confidence and what it can do. Many people believe that confidence is in-born. While some may naturally have a higher degree of confidence than others, it is essentially a habit that can be cultivated. Whatever little you have can be increased. How?

Believe confidence is action not a feeling: Confidence is not confidence if it doesn’t stimulate you into taking action. And as you take action, confidence in your ability to succeed grows. No matter how confident you feel, if it is not resulting in something tangible, it is just a good feeling.

Know where you stumble: It may be that you tend to level off at a certain ceiling. That you never aim for anything higher than a particular level or you tend to suffer setback with specific things. Own where you want to go and keep focused. Be deliberate and targeted.

Fan any pockets of confidence. Start a journal of things you are doing well and focus on them as a way of assuring yourself that if you step out and take one step at a time, your confidence will grow. Don’t rush things; set small goals and as you make small achievements, you can take a bigger step.

Practice in low stakes situations: Always prepare in the best way you can for when you want to step out of comfort zones or do something you’ve never done before. You can stay prepared by always accessing the right learning.

Stay around confident people: They’ll always pull you up too. Be honest with yourself in terms of your confidence level and look to learn from people who have mastered it. Get coaching to up your confidence and do things you couldn’t do before.

Now take action: Decide one action you’ll start to do daily to build your confidence. n
