Kukoma Diamonds just need a draw in their remaining two matches to take the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) glory following a 109-14 thumping of hosts Chitakale Sisters in Mulanje on Sunday.

Following the victory, Diamonds have taken their tally to 48 points from 16-straight wins and are three points ahead of second-placed defending champions Tigresses, who beat Shizaella Queens 65-32 on Saturday to remain with a single match to wind up their fixtures.

Maximum points for Tigresses and third-placed Thunder Queens is 48. Thunder triumphed 96-24 over Chitakale on Saturday to take their tally to 39 points with three games to go.

Diamonds are just within sniffing distance from winning the title

A league title is the only trophy that is remaining for Diamonds to complete a 100 percent success rate in all competitions they participated in this season, having won the Airtel Money Netball Tournament and the Presidential Netball Championship.

“At this moment, I can comfortably say the league glory belongs to us.  I said at the start of the season that our aim is to win all competitions and I am happy that we are on the right track, “ said Diamonds award-winning coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda.

Tigresses assistant coach Charles Mhango admitted that it will be hard for them to retain the league title this season.

In other games last weekend, Alliance Capital Stars tightened their grip on the fourth place with an 80-27 win over Young Professionals while Prison Sisters beat Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 52-33 and Young Professionals 42-19 to cement their stand on fifth slot.

Stars have 36 points from 16 games whereas Prison Sisters have 27 points from 17 games. n
