A dispute is raging in Malawi President Joyce Banda’s Zomba Malosa Constituency after elections for chairperson of the area development committee (ADC) are due for a re-run to accommodate people who missed out on the elections.

Rose Mchilima triumphed in elections held on November 14 2012, in Group Village Head (GVH) Mtogolo, Traditional Authority Malemia.

She ousted incumbent Peaches Magwira who also contested in the elections.

Mchilima said she has been clashing with Magwira, who is her deputy, for presiding over meetings in the area as chairperson.

She said she suspects that Magwira wants to dethrone her by calling for fresh elections to be held on Wednesday on the pretext of accommodating three delegates from GVH Chopi who missed the first elections.

“I have been told that they cannot be led by a woman,” she said.

But Magwira disputed the allegations against him.

Director of planning and development Willard Chirwa said the re-run seeks to give people from GVH Chopi a chance to contest in the elections.
