Diversifying away from tobacco

The Presidential Initiative on Hunger and Poverty Reduction will from this week start distributing beans, soya, groundnuts and pigeon peas seeds in different part of the country.

The Malawi Government is encouraging the growing of legumes as part of its economic diversification programme. Currently, the country’s economy is dominated by tobacco which wires in 60 percent of total foreign earnings.
