It was his first trip and performance to Malawi and South Africa’s music powerhouse DJ Tira made sure to live up to his name and reputation. And he made sure he lived up to that.

Enjoying a huge success and popularity in South Africa and elsewhere, DJ Tira had one task; to underline his growing reputation among his Malawian fans as one of Africa’s top music creators and spinners of this generation.

DJ Tira: In action during his performance

Team Entertainers Promotions (EP) provided a near-perfect stage for him at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Friday night.

The outfit accorded him a hero’s welcome upon his arrival in the country. DJ Tira had no excuse with the warmth of the reception and welcome he got.

As per tradition EP did their best to design and decorate the vast Comesa Hall open arena to suit the kind of VIP performance they so wanted to attain. The hall was demarcated into three sections; the VVIP, VIP and the normal section.

The biggest strength in EP’s stage organisation arrangements lies in their sophisticated lighting abilities. And on Friday they didn’t come short either. The room was given a unique illumination which at times brought out a night club feel.

As early as 7pm the area surrounding the Comesa Hall was already full of life and activity as people queued up for the event, billed to start at 8pm.

But that excitement among the patrons was to be tampered with a bit with the delay in the start of performances though.

It was only some minutes after 9:30pm that DJ Nathan Tunes appeared on stage to send the event in motion with a moving performance on the decks. Patience Namadingo was next on stage.

Supported by his VIP band, the Mapaulani hit maker appeared in high spirits and gave a lively performance which lasted close to two hours.

The delayed arrival of Lucius Banda meant the event’s main act, DJ Tira had to perform after Namadingo. At around midnight the stage went dark, in the process creating a suspicious suspense.

The darkness was paving the way for DJ Tira’s arrival. Finally the moment people had waited for had arrived. With his small and short frame, the South African artist arrived on stage flanked by his two female dancers.

He took his spot behind the decks and immediately set the house on fire. His presence made the patrons disregard the seating protocols and a majority found their way inside the VIP enclosure, as they wanted to get a close feel the South African. It was an enclosed spot, but it ende up being one for all.

DJ Tira sensed the hunger and anticipation in the audience and he made sure he reciprocated accordingly. He played the music, danced to the tunes such Uyangazi and Fakaza.

For that matter, he enjoyed the handshakes from the patrons who kept howling out his name.

He had the crowd on cloud nine when he introduced the current trending song Kwabwera Mahule and, eventually belted it out in his laboured Chichewa .

The artist had patrons on the dance floor till around 3am when he signed off.
