US gospel music icon Don Moen is set to headline the Love Malawi Festival scheduled for Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHes), formerly known as College of Medicine Sports Complex from October 1 to 3.

Don Moen, 71, is a world-class American gospel musician whose first album Worship with Don Moen was released in 1992. Some of his most popular songs include Our Father, I Offer My Life and How Great Thou Art.

In an interview, one of the local organisers of the event, which is under the Luis Palau Association, David Chigamba, said the three-day event will be full of fun for families while at the same time spreading the gospel.

He said: “We take the approach of having fun because we want people, especially the youth, to be relaxed. We realise that music and other fun activities for the youth are better than the formal preaching set-up.

“We want everyone who comes to the festival to be entertained and have a great time through music and other activities such as the bicycle and motor bike stunts that will take place.”

Chigamba said Don Moen brings with him a wealth of experience when it comes to entertaining huge crowds, having been doing so for over 30 years.

“He is an experienced worshipper whose music is popular here in Malawi. He appeals to both the young and the old. We have also lined up other local musicians to support him as this is a three-day marathon of music and fun,” he said.

Chigamba said other artists to perform include Faith Mussa, Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, Shammah Vocals and Ndirande Anglican Voices.

In a separate interview, Mussa said that alongside Mdidi Band they are geared to give patrons a great time.

He said: “We have just recorded new music and we will offer that to patrons during the festival. Other than that, we will also perform their old favourites. So, I can assure our fans that they will have a great time at the festival.”

The Love Malawi Festival first took place in Malawi in 2016 in Lilongwe. It is organised by Luis Palau’s ministry under the Luis Palau Association, which works all over the world. Luis Palau Association was founded by evangelist Luis Palau.
