Chiefs in Mchinji have asked agro-companies and other dealers not to sell counterfeit seeds and fertilisers to farmers.
Traditional Authority Mkanda said this on Wednesday when he presided over a field day organised by Seed Co Malawi in the district.
“I warn these companies to stop duping poor farmers as they cannot buy seeds and fertilisers again when their money is gone,” he said.
Mkanda commended Seed Co Malawi for ensuring that they sell good seeds to farmers.
A lead farmer, Matthews Phiri said he bought soya and maize seeds from Seed Co Malawi and is expecting bumper harvests.
“The company also tipped me on how to take care of my crops,” he said.
On his part, Seed Co Malawi field officer James Mtiyesa said they wanted to showcase different varieties of seeds from the company at different demonstration gardens.
