Dowa agriculture fair exposes technologies

An agriculture fair, which is ending today in Dowa, has exposed different agricultural technologies that can improve the agriculture sector if adopted by farmers.

Speaking when he officially opened the fair on Wednesday, Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development chief director Bright Kumwembe expressed satisfaction with the displays.

“This is so impressive. These are the kind of technologies that we want in the country to improve our agriculture sector. I will relay what I have seen today to the ministry,” he said.

Kumwembe said this after viewing displays by farmers, innovators, banks, seed companies and processors, who showcased their products and services aimed at contributing to the agriculture sector.

“We have seen amazing products and technologies here. Look at the irrigation technologies, seed varieties, modern incubators and the other machinery on display. Our farmers need to adopt these,” said Kumwembe.

He said both the public and private sectors have a crucial role to play in the development of agriculture, a key sector in the country’s economic growth.

The fair was held under the theme ‘Public private partnership in commercialisation of agriculture: Key to improved livelihoods’. n
