Four Central Region teams will on Saturday battle for regional honours of the K30 million (about $120 000) Presidential Cup at Dowa Community Centre Court.

Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daudi, who is also parliamentarian for Dowa South East Constituency is expected to grace the occasion, according to Dowa District Netball Committee (DDNC) acting chairperson Aaron Gopani.

“We have invited her to attend the finals as guest of honour. Her netball team Halima Sisters participated in the tournament, but they did not make it to the last four,” said Gopani.

The four teams that sailed to the finals are Dowa Medicals, Mponela Police, Support Battalion and Dowa Police.

The champions will receive K100 000 (about $400) and a trophy whereas runners-up will get K70 000 (about $280). Third and fourth best teams will receive K50 000 (about $200) and K30 000 (about $120) respectively. All the 10 teams that joined the race will receive a ball each.

Regional champions and runners-up will proceed to national finals to be played on July 28 in Lilongwe.
