Group village head (GVH) Msochi of Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa has applauded his subjects for their unity in building a timber bridge across Lingadzi River.

Speaking during postmortem of the project on Sunday at his headquarters, the chief said his subjects would not have accomplished the project if they did not act with one accord.

“I am impressed with what you have done and request that you continue with this spirit.

The newly constructed bridge

“It is through this unity of purpose that our area will develop and will attract support from the government and other development partners,” he said.

GVH Msochi said the construction of the bridge will facilitate access to the hospital and schools by people of Msochi, Maria, Tchezo and Kaphaizi villages that fall under his jurisdiction.

“It had often been a big challenge for us to call ambulances to come and take sick people to the district hospital situated at the boma while children have also had challenges to cross the river to go to school, particularly during the rainy season,” he said.

In his remarks, village head Maria said the contributions made by individuals from the four villages both in cash and kind have paid off as the bridge has finally been constructed.

He urged the construction committee to follow up on those that did not contribute to do so so that the money can be reserved for repairs.

The traditional leader  also advised the community to guard against any forms of vandalism of the bridge which has cost them over K1 million for it to last longer.

GVH Msochi is located  five kilometres north west of Dowa Boma.

It is situated between two rivers of Tatolonga to the west and Lingadzi to the East and North which makes the area cut off from social amenities in the absence of a bridge on either of the rivers.
